Re: HELP!!! GPS software causing reboot and/or freezing

Turns out that QuickGPS update that I tried when folks said it was working this AM. Is now broken again (It was working). One problem with all this is everything is time dependent. Even if you DON'T run QuickGPS or change anything and it working it uses different data from xtra.bin or does different calculations as time moves on. What worked 10AM this morning is now different and won't work.

I thought using it multiple times per boot was a sure fire test of it working but even that doesn't appear true. Because I did that this morning and it worked but now tonight it would work but only once per boot.

Luckily putting the attached xtra.bin from this thread again and bumping the date again (so it's newer than this mornings QuickGPS update) fixed it so it now seems solid again.

Re: HELP!!! GPS software causing reboot and/or freezing

Sounds like I'll have to try re-enabling QuickGPS. If it still doesn't work, I'll replace xtra.bin again. Anyone hear anything from HTC or Qualcomm about this?

10:00am CET UPDATE: downloaded latest xtra.bin through QuickGPS, fix in Google Maps was almost instant. I'll try again in a few hours, hope it sticks.

11:15am CET UPDATE2: still works

P.S. I'm on a T-Mobile MDA Compact IV with the stock (dutch) 1.93 ROM installed. Reflashed last weekend when I was troubleshooting this issue.

Re: HELP!!! GPS software causing reboot and/or freezing

Here is an interesting little twist that may or may not have anything to do with this issue.

I get up at 5:15 for work pacific time. I have an alarm clock you never have to set because it sets itself to the correct time using the atomic clock signal from were ever it comes from. Last Sunday when I woke up my clock had already reset itself to standard time.

This morning my alarm went off, I got up, my clock said it was 5:15, but it was only 4:15. I check to make sure my clock was getting a signal, it was, so I had it do a manual reset and 2 minutes later it was back to the correct time.

Strange

Well, problem seems to be gone for me, we'll see what happens in another week. I will not be surprised if it indeed turns out this was caused by DST and servers being out of synch or something similar.

These are registry and file entries that I was going to implement in my next Telenav optimizations, but should work here.

EDIT:
It is my belief that "QuikGPS" is not the culprit, just the "messenger".
The conflict of data interaction is the issue, and my cab should "divert" the issue.
I could be totally wrong, but I am guessing the carriers agps data, is the issue.
Haven't tried this yet, as my phone's gps works when I'm on the stock ROM; had to flash back to that while I worked with carrier tech support on this...

They told me that there was a setting or file that installing TeleNav would fix, and my GPS would be fine, so you may be onto something! I'll be going back to a custom ROM this afternoon, and if I still have GPS issues, I'll run this .cab and let you know if it works

The stupid xtra.bin file is in TWO places. You must replace BOTH.

\Windows\xtra.bin
\Temp\xtra.bin

Replace it in BOTH directories and soft reset.

P.S. One other thing I did is I made sure the file had a current date on it. Since some stuff is date sensitive. But I'm not sure that mattered.

This fixed my problem as well....so far anyway. Thanks a lot!!

QuickGPS problem has been fixed in the system. You don't need to use the downloaded xtra.bin any more. Just use QuickGPS as ususal

I don't trust it any more. Last time I tried, it worked fine and then later in the day it failed on the SAME xtra.bin update.

Don't really need it either.

Re: HELP!!! GPS software causing reboot and/or freezing

Thanks a lot!! I have flashed the radio from sprint to verizon and it works very very fine without reboots. Connects to the satellites in 10-15 secs. Thanks a lot.
PS for all:
Flashing a different radio resolves the problem of reboot or freezing!
