I tried 4 different cables on 2 computers - no go. That would be a ridiculous coincidence to have all bad cables

yeah i geuss go to controll panel and hit add new hardware that might help sorry i am just trying to help you out....i know it has to suck

did you try to plug anything esle in to usb port check that maybe

Add new hardware doesn't find anything.

The USB port seems fine with other stuff. I tried different ones.

I really think it's the connector on the phone.

You probably will be ok just taking the NBH from the stock ROM and putting it on your storage as DIAMIMG.nbh and then going to bootloader. It's highly unlikely they will notice the SPL being wrong.

how about the setting in active sync make sure all the boxes are checked...
