Upgrade to Diamond from Touch Vogue or go to TP2?

I'm on Sprint and at end of 2 years where I'm eligible for an upgrade. I've had the Sprint Touch (Vogue) for almost 2 years and have been very happy with other than the fact it is somewhat laggy (much improved after flashing better ROMs, but not perfect).

I DO NOT need a hardware keyboard. My phone is on it's last legs and I am ready for an upgrade.

The Diamond really seems to be what would work for me, but I'm concerned if it is also laggy (I realize it doesn't have a memory card slot; while I don't like that, I can live with it).

Or would I better off with the new Touch Pro 2 even though I don't need a keyboard? Is it significantly snappier than the Diamond? Only other advantage I can see for the TP2 is that it is a world phone which would be handy occasionally.

If I decide on the Diamond it looks like it might be cheaper to just get one on eBay than through Sprint.

I have been trying to negotiate the TP2 price with Sprint (am awaiting a call back) -- I don't have a business account, but a very high $$ family plan with a lot of phones on it.

What are your recommendations for me?

Thanks.

i have a diamond and i can tell you right now, the battery life is atrocious and to be honest i am getting sick of windows mobile. If i were you i would get the hero.

I have some apps I need to use regularly (nothing the average guy would need) that need Windows Mobile.

I'm not sure how likely it is but I'd wait for the Leo aka Sprint Adonis...

Looks nice, but I probably can't wait that long. My Touch is on it's last legs (despite new flashes, it regularly locks up -- I hit the power button and nothing happens without a reset). Of course Sprint tells me nothing is wrong with it.

1. for getting a diamond off ebay or craigslist.. and save your upgrade for something better down the road.. this option will save money and your upgrade...

Thanks. I am seriously considering that. How does the Diamond's speed compare to my old Touch? Is it comparably laggy or is it noticeably better?

Comparably better imo... Its way faster, although I guess i could depend on the rom you're running.

Thanks. I'm waiting to hear back from Sprint. Unless they offer me a really good deal on the TP2 (not very likely) I'll probably go with a Diamond from eBay. I only would buy a new one though and there aren't many listed (right now 3 for $240 or under shipped).

I would say if you can get a TP2 for $199 go for that. Too bad they aren't getting the Imagio. But wait and see what some more phones are because the Diamond is a year old.

Re: Upgrade to Diamond from Touch Vogue or go to TP2?

I just got the call back from Sprint and they finally agreed to give me the Touch Pro 2 for $199 after rebate (to match Verizon). Means they'll charge me $299 for it. Problem is that I am most likely not eligible for the rebate as I do not have one of the "Everything" plans, but rather have an "Unlimited Data Plan". Based on my existing overall plan (very old lots of grandfathered stuff) it would cost me for me to switch to an "Everything" plan the rebate would save me. I decided to go for the TP2 for the $299 (and hope that I might convince them do give me the rebate in the end) since it is only $60 more than the Diamond would cost me on eBay and is a much better phone (even though I'd really prefer no keyboard and a smaller footprint).

You won't regret it. It's a big jump in device, and I'm planning to do that soon as well.

I'm looking forward to it. Busy reading up on the TP2 threads to prepare myself.

Sounds like you've already pulled the trigger ... but will give my thoughts anyway. I am one of those who love their Diamond. I've had mine for a year, and have to tell you that the rom you use makes all the difference in the world. Mine is quick, stable, and just fun to use. The VGA screen is quite nice, and I really like the smaller foot print, especially the thinness. Personally, I'll be waiting for the D2 or the HD2. Enjoy your new phone ... there should be lots of custom stuff to choose from.

I was very tempted to go with a Diamond specifically for the smaller footprint and because I don't need the hardware keyboard. But, I was really hesitant to pay that much for a phone that's already been around for a year.

I hope I've made the right decision.

I like the Diamond but if there are slightly bigger screened phones coming out that do just as much for the same price why not get it? :D

I'm inclined to agree, if all you could find is a Diamond for $200 or more. You do have some time to test out the TP2, so give it a go, and let us know what you think. Enjoy ...

Only very briefly. I've had WM phones for years (and use some very uncommon proprietary WM programs) and am not ready to switch to another platform.

Were it not that my current Touch is dying, I might wait to see what else is offered in the near future, but since I can't wait, it's the TP2 for now.

Re: Upgrade to Diamond from Touch Vogue or go to TP2?

What you could do is buy the TP2 full price then just hardly use it, put it in a case and screen protector, sell it when Sprint releases something thinner, then voila. That or get another phone off of eBay/Craigslist.
