need some help (verizon vs alltel)

heres the deal, i got an alltel diamond 3 weeks ago when i renewed my contract. over all pretty happy with it...
i had a few bugs in the touch flo software, so they sent me a replacement phone today... its a verizon diamond...
first impression... it looks nicer, more square and the cool diamond cut on the back...
but some things are different in the software (after a quick glance)
no quick gps program, no internet sharing program... and the touch flow is slightly different as well...
also there isnt a 4gb internal storage, it requires an external card... which i guess is a good thing... but i need to buy a card now

so do i keep the verizon model, or call them and try to get an alltel model sent to me????

what are the pros/cons of each

(btw, any chance the gps works better in the verizon model)
thanx a bunch for the help guys

I'll let someone else get into the specifics and details, but basically, the Verizon Diamond sucks...

Re: need some help (verizon vs alltel)

I would suggest keeping your alltel diamond and following the unlocking process and flash a custom ROM I prefer MightyRom4. This will allow you to have an open gps and better overall hardware.

Re: need some help (verizon vs alltel)

i was considering that... my only concern is possibly bricking my phone... im more of a hardware guy then a software guy... and with two kids and two jobs..... i dont have much time to read through the (what seems like) 100's of posts on how to do it...

how likely is it that i could brick the phone so bad it cant be recovered???

Thanx again for the help.. i should have joined this forum when i first got my htc touch....

Re: need some help (verizon vs alltel)

Agreed. Tell them you wish to keep your old phone and will be sending the Verizon Diamond back. Verizon's Diamonds are "gimped" because they had a contract with Qualcomm from a while ago to make it with inferior chipsets so it has less RAM, hence we can't use custom ROMs. Just flash a custom ROM like MightyROM4 Final (very stable!!!) and it will be fine.

Re: need some help (verizon vs alltel)

Well it will hard reset your phone so a full backup would be in order. But yes e-mail and tethering still work fine and so does MMS.

I would flash the new ROM and hard reset after it's flashed. Then spend a while just setting everything up.
