Alltel Diamond and SMS/MMS

Hi everyone. I'm very new to the forum but I'm hoping I can get some help potentially. I got a Touch Diamond very recently and I am having no trouble installing ROMs and all of that great stuff. Thanks to all who make these things because the devices run infinitely better on those than what Alltel ships theirs with.

The issue I'm having is with SMS and MMS. Thus far I have been completely unsuccessful in getting any ROM to work with my Diamond and SMS/MMS. Seriously I've tried a bunch of different carrier cabs with multiple ROMs including Mighty's and AJM's. No matter what I do it just won't let me send SMS/MMS through Alltel. I can connect to the internet, make, receive calls, and all that good stuff. It just refuses outright to allow me to send SMS/MMS messages. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Alltel Diamond and SMS/MMS

Does it give you any sort of error message, or is it just acting as if the messages are being sent without actually sending?

Have you tried flashing back to the Alltel stock ROM? This is probably a stupid question, but just to cover all bases, did you have any problems with SMS/MMS when you first got the phone? I have an Alltel-branded Diamond, also, but haven't had any problems with SMS on any of the various ROMs I've flashed from this site. I've had to install Arcsoft MMS on one occasion when a ROM didn't include it, but that doesn't sound anything like whatever problem you're having...

Hi and thanks for the help. Typically what happens is like this: I install a ROM on the Diamond wait for it to boot up and finish setup and all that. What happened on Mighty's ROMs was that I'd get my contacts synced up and all that. Then when I go to messages or choose to send one to a contact is when I start having the problem. If I choose to insert a picture into a message on Mighty's ROM it stops the text/MMS app and goes to what I think is the email client. Then in the message field it has a default line inside of it that is something like /c-c or something similar to that. I can attach a picture to it, but when I go to send it, it gives me an error message that I can't remember off the top of my head.

I just reinstalled the original Alltel ROM and it's working like it's supposed to except for MMS. Both SMS and MMS were working flawlessly before I flashed the ROM in the first place. I can't choose any file on the internal storage when I try to choose a picture or video. ](*,)The internal storage doesn't show up as an option. This happened in another ROM/cab combination as well, where I was able to send SMS but no MMS. Any ideas how to get my internal storage back in the selection screen?

Also I can't seem to turn on Wi-Fi. If I go through the setup thing in the settings it recognizes my home network and tries to connect but it doesn't and I can't change the setting in Communications.
*edit* I fixed Wi-Fi. That was a silly mistake on my part but the SMS/MMS thing is still not working. :( Any ideas anyone?

well to start off. SMS and MMS work in two separate ways. so, one can work while the other could not. when you say you are using the "stock" rom for alltel, where did you get that from? i would suggest trying the shipped rom, instead of the stock (need it pm me). the reason is because the stock rom that if available on this website was sort of pieced together to mimic the stock, while the shipped rom (at least the one i have) is really the default rom that came on our diamonds, and it will flash everything- not just your OS.

id also be interested to hear what exactly the error message is that youre receiving when using MMS when you use my rom. i used the shipped rom as a base for my rom, and i have never had any problem with MMS- and this is the first i have heard of any problem from a user of my rom.

let me know, because one of the main reasons i put my alltel rom out there was so that we (alltel people) could have an up-to-date custom rom with fully functional MMS- no hacks, cabs, etc necessary.

I apologize for getting my terminology mixed up. I was going by what I found in this thread, which lists the file I used to revert back as the "stock" file. This is a direct link to the file I used. This particular file plus the relocker let me revert totally back to the original Alltel version of the phone. It has all the original apps and SMS and MMS are both working perfectly now on this phone after some time for some reason. I also found the internal storage since it oddly made me go through the entire file system to find it rather than being present from the get-go. In short - it was weird after reverting back to the original but it's fixed now, it seems. Everything's working like it should.

I couldn't get MMS/SMS to work at all with Mighty's ROM which is a great shame. I tried a ton of Alltel MMS cab files with various versions of his ROMs with no success. Your ROM was the only one that let me SMS but I couldn't get MMS working and although it ran really well, it was a little barebones for my liking. (Though I'm certain a lot of people will want it just for that.) I really wish I could remember offhand what that error message was for the MMS but I can't unfortunately. Since I got it back working now I really kind of don't want to mess with it for right now. I certainly do appreciate both your work and others' work on these phones and your help comes even more appreciated.

I know that Mighty does not have MMS included on his latest ROMs. I also had a problem with that i tried downloading the picturemail cab and that did absolutely nothing. But AJM came a long and created a picture perfect (for me) rom!

I have gotten MMS to work on every ROM I have tried.

First off make sure your phone is fresh after a hard reset. Then go to the Touch Pro Upgrades forum and you will see the MightyROM thread there. In like post 2 or 3 is a cab for MMS. Install that. Once installed you will be able to go to the server settings for MMS (If you need to know how, ask) and in there will be a "Connect Via:" line and you will want it to say "The Internet". That should work for you. ;)

Re: Alltel Diamond and SMS/MMS

Isnt there also a carrier data cab file that you can install after flashing to a custom rom
Because the roms you install are not carrier specific regardless if you flash your phone before and after, ill post a link but im not for sure if this will solve your problem.
