Re: why does the diamond get so hot?

From my own personal experience, it appears that it's due to the CDMA radio. This is backed up by the fact that some of the newer radio software builds generate significantly less heat.

I suggest flashing the 1.04 Telus radio, or even one of the newer Sprint radios and see what happens.

Re: why does the diamond get so hot?

i myself have had my diamond get so hot it just shut off with the sprint stock radio. ive learned a few tricks trough just trial and error. first thing did was switch radios. i prefer the telus radio myself. second thing that helps me is switching to roam only when im getting poor signal. from what a sprint rep told me. when roaming in evdoits not rev a evdo. but none the less my diamond doesnt heat up near as bad now and i really havent noticed a drop in speeds roaming. these things work for me. so i would sugest trying them. thats my piece, hope it works or helps someone.

Re: why does the diamond get so hot?

device gets hot with high CPU usage.. ive had a diamond for a while, and notice if apps are running in the background that use even a little CPU on a regular basis then the device will heat up.. the moment that app was uninstalled (without restarting the device) the diamond cooled..
so keep in mind.. long lasting high CPU intensive apps.. no good.. Lol

Re: why does the diamond get so hot?

Tacking on to what Daniel said, the CPU creates heat, but also the radio polling the tower does too. Spend a complete day in an area that has 4+ bars of signal strength in it and you'll notice your phone generating less heat. If you live in a weak signal area, you'll have more heat. I've spent about 3 weeks doing exactly that, not using the phone, just having my extra phone (a diamond) on and recording the heat. The better the signal = less heat.

Solution: MOVE!!
