Question bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

Hi,

I am hoping that someone here can help me with this.

I am having trouble with pairing my brand new Sprint Touch Diamond to my BMW X5 for handsfree calling.
I tried it with two ROMS with no success.

Original HTC ROM:

The pairing completes successfully but as soon as the car tries to download phonebook, the phone start restarting.

Juicy 2.6 Sprint ROM:

The pairing process completes successfully. But the car is not able to connect and download the phonebook. The car keeps saying "Phone Connected?" on the LCD.

Did anyone successfully connect this phone to a BMW or any other car/handsfree system? If so, can you help me out with some details on which ROM and process that you have used.

Thanks for any help.

Edit:

Here is the solution to this problem.

I found that this issue is being caused by Bluetooth AudioGatway Extension dll.
On the diamond and several other HTC phones it is set to OEMAGW.dll

I was able to resolve this issue by changing the following registry key value to vcbthag.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Au dioGateway\BTAGExtModule

vcbthag.dll is a audio gateway extension that comes with voice command and also provides almost all the capabilities as the OEM gateway.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

I've seen the same problem on a BMW 7 series. According to the BMW website and I also asked the dealer, BWM does not fully support Windows Mobile phones. So downloading the phonebook will not fully work. Unfortunately, you'll have to manually type in every number and save it in the iDrive system.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

I have used my several windows mobile phones before with my car including HTC touch.

However, your post reminded me that i had to use some other add-on software (cab) to make it work with it. I will try to search for it.

Also, most of the cooked HTC Touch ROMS did not have any trouble with this.
Touch Diamond seems to not work even with the custom ROMS.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

I did some more testing with different ROMs and it seems to crash the device with all of them.

I found that i used "Jetware Mobile" software on my HTC Touch, unfortunately that also does not seem fix the problem with diamond.

It seems to crash the device when trying to tranfer phonebook.
I looked through the bluetooth registry keys for anything obvious about phonebook but did not have any luck.

It seems to use hands free profile and may be PBAP (Phonebook access profile) to transfer phonebook.

Wonder what the differences are between this device and Touch in regards bluetooth stack.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

I'm also experiencing problems with my Diamond and my 2009 Chevy HHR SS. However, my phone doesn't crash, the Bluetooth connection just drops randomly. And most of the time when it's paired with the car, it takes too long to dial (about 1 min) and to answer. This was with the original rom and with Juicy 2.6.
Bluetooth only works flawlessly with my Jawbone 2, but I rather use my car's Bluetooth while driving.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

I see that there is an update bluetooth drivers included on Juicy 2.7 ROM, I will give that a try once he uploads the sprint version of the ROM.

Re: bluetooth connection to my car crashes the phone

Letest version of Juicy ROM (3.0) seems to have updated bluetooth drivers. But it did not help my situation.
I wonder if it is a hardware issue with just this phone.

Thanks for keeping us posted with this update. My sprint touch recently failed and I'm getting a diamond through Asurion's TEP, and the pairing is what concerns me most. I just bought an '09 335i and my touch was very spotty with connections. I had a custom ROM on it and it would pair fine, even upload the phonebook...the first time. After that it would get nothing.

Hopefully this registry fix will take care of the issue once I get the diamond from Asurion. If there's any more info you have on Diamond/BMW idrive pairing, please feel free to post it here or PM me.

Thanks again!
