Re: Iris Browser (Safari) For Windows Mobile

I like to use it with google mobile sites as it is detected as an iphone and you get the iphone interface.

BTW - This is not Safari for Windows Mobile. This is not Safari ... period. Safari is an intellectual property owned by Apple, Inc. Iris is based on The WebKit Open Source Project ... not Safari's integration of WebKit, which has many coding manipulations of the base WebKit code also used by Torch Mobile's Iris Browser. Do not expect the same behavior from Iris as you may experience with iPhone or desktop Safari.

The "bones" of it are similar. The user interface is not comparable to it, though. You'll need to use your stylus for clicking links and using the menu unless you have really dainty phalanges . It is not Safari, though. The OP should correct that title. Apple's WebKit code is based off of KHTML from Konqueror (written in Qt C++), which Apple piggybacked to make Safari. The WebKit builds that Torch uses for Iris work off the KDE Team's WebKit project, not Apple's protected intellectual property from Safari. It's clear when you use both browser's side-by-side that they definitely have extreme differences. For overall use, I give Iris a 1 up on Safari. iPhone OS 3.0 has some serious competition on the browser front with the fight Iris is giving it on Windows CE and Qt platforms.

Get the latest build here.
