Windows Media Player Regedit ?

I am trying to maximize the best movie quality we can get out of our diamonds. I am using #1 dvd ripper to rip my DVD's and I am finding I can play 640x480 mpeg-4 videos (h.263) relatively smoothly, but not without some chop. I am wondering if anyone would know how to hack into (maybe via some regedits) Mobile Windows Media Player to play with the buffering settings and stuff....any help would be appreciated. If I come out with really good results i'll post a tutorial and how to get the best movie playback on our diamonds.

Re: Windows Media Player Regedit ?

I really don't think its as much a tweak as the player you are trying to use. WMP is actually pretty limited when it comes down to it.

Re: Windows Media Player Regedit ?

I have wmp and coreplayer. wmp actually plays some of my h.263's better than coreplayer (supposedly the best player out there). What is also funny is that WMP seems to play the 640x480 vids better than 320x240 vids...that's what makes me think it can be an issue solved with some regedits

Re: Windows Media Player Regedit ?

Let me start by saying I'm appalled at WinMo's inability to play it's own video format (wmv) even at its crappiest quality settings. Luckily there are mp4's.
I've found that Juicy's 4.3 or 4.4 has the best video performance and generally plays everything. My fav to watch is:
CoreAVC h.264
480x270 (widescreen)
@ ~23fps
Bitrate ~1Mbps

If you want higher res like 640x360
You will probably want to drop the framefrate to 15-20.

I've also seen good results with Flv h.263 (youtube/google video files)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa451351.aspx
These are the only "tweaks" that you can do without using new drivers.
Plus, most of the time, they are already set at the best options for the devices abilities.

Thumbs up Re: Windows Media Player Regedit ?

Thanks for the help - I made some changes but it didnt seem to make any difference.
I have found that 10 to 15 minute movie clips ripped with either #1 dvd ripper or SUPER converter in MPEG-4 at 720x480 1000kbps seem to play well in album mode - it's smooth with just a little chop.
BUT - when I load a whole 2 hour movie at the same settings the video and audio seem to freeze for a second every 3 or 4 seconds for the first quarter or so of the movie. I don't understand why it would do this.
Im guessing it's a buffering problem - anyone have any ideas???
