Diamond camera can do 3 cm macro!

The trick is to touch the rock button to get a good focus before you press down. The smallest object to get perfect focus is 3 cm. Smaller than that, it starts to lose focus. Video is the same. Decent, few dedicated cameras are able to do this.

Man, love this thing, pro-quality camera, decent FM reception/sound, true standalone GPS for TomTom, VGA for touch browsing with Opera/Mini, watching TV and remote desktop, push Gmail, rightly-positioned speaker for VOIP... it does them all and does them very well, with 4GB storage, 256MB RAM and 533MHz CPU to spare! This 4 oz baby beats my desktop/laptop and for less than $300!

Well, that's how the auto focus works. It's not a trick, or a new discovery

Re: Diamond camera can do 3mm macro!

not sure, but I think it's the capacative touch function of the button panel that detects when you get close to the panel and focuses before you hit the button to take the pic.

You're right, but It's actually when you touch it, and not close to it, hence, capacitive.

Re: Diamond camera can do 3 cm macro!

That first pic is not entirely focused. But yeah, the camera can do pretty decent macros for a phone camera. Not "pro-quality" by any stretch of the imagination though. There are consumer level fixed lens cameras that can focus down to the lens itself (Canon S3, S5 for example)

Re: Diamond camera can do 3 cm macro!

OK, here is a real new trick to get pro-closeup down to 2 cm objects: put a cheap $0.99 magnifier before the camera.

BTW, I sent these photos directly from my Diamond to Google's picasaweb through email. In Picasaweb's settings, you can setup a special email address for accepting photos into your albums. Then just email to the address with a subject of album title, very handy.
