Help with cemail.vol/ text messages questions

I am using sprite backup to transfer the cemail.vol file from my touch to the diamond because I want to keep my text messages. during the backup I notice that the file tree has a check box for messaging and also attachments both under the cemail file. I tried backing up each one individualy as thee separate restore files... first one with the whole cemail.vol file, second one with just the messaging, and the 3rd one with the messaging and attachments included. I restored the first to the new phone, then restored back to factory settings, did the second one to the new phone.. and then the same thing with the 3rd restore. after each restore was done the info that transferred over seemed to be identical even though the file size of each restore was much different. can someone please tell me what each is for and if its necessary to transfer over the messaging and attachments also with the cemail.vol file and if will cause a problem or not by doing it this way. ?

Can't answer your question, but you're better off using a 3rd party SMS backup software. Keeping large amounts of messages in your inbox/folder will slow load time and it's rather inefficient.

Re: Help with cemail.vol/ text messages questions

ok thanks haven't tried that yet I,ll look into it .. but sprite does restore my texts to the new phone fine but within the cemail.vol file there is also "messaging" and "attachments"... just wondering what those 2 subfiles include and if I can leave those out to save room. oh well not a big deal.

Re: Help with cemail.vol/ text messages questions

1 other question though about the threaded texting... is there a way to delete parts of the conversation history without deleting everything?? one thing I liked about the old way was that you could save texts messages without taking up a lot of space because ur just saving that individual message... where as the threaded, unless i,m missing something, you have to keep the whole damn conversation and history even if you just wanna hold on to one sentence.

Go to settings and switch from Threaded to Classic messaging. Delete the individual messages you want to get rid of, then switch back to Threaded. Don't think there's a better way unfortunately.
