GPS on Diamond with iGo 8, how to prime it?

I had iGo8 on my Touch working flawlessly with the GPS toggle. It's a very small app that creates a today item and you can click on and off the GPS. What I did is to click on the GPS then turn on the iGO, now with the new interface of diamond. There's no way to find normal today item even if I set it to show up on Today, but strangely, when I directly turn on iGo and let the software to auto-detect GPS, it did connect to the GPS device. Then I ran out of power and did not test if the routing and stuff really worked or not.

So for people who use igo, how do you configure it? Does it automatically connect to GPS on diamond without prime? More importantly does it shut the GPS off after you exit the software? TIA

Re: GPS on Diamond with iGo 8, how to prime it?

The Sprint Stock ROM runs QuickGPS as Service that constantly keeps the GPS Primed.

And application that KNOWS how to comminucate with the GPS Should work fine. Some do not. Like iGuidance. For picky apps that strictly use COM ports you may have to use something like GPSgate. Which works very good for iGuidance. And it's pretty cheap.

If the GPS is constantly on, no wonder the battery life sucks. Are you sure about this?

Re: GPS on Diamond with iGo 8, how to prime it?

I was surprised to find out that my Diamond didn't require a prime for iGo 8. Now I see why.

If, for some reason, you do need to prime it, I suggest AstroGPSLauncher. It's what I used on my Touch (Classic) with great success.

Can this service be disabled in the registry to save battery life?

Re: GPS on Diamond with iGo 8, how to prime it?

It does not mean the GPS is on.

It's just has data preloaded into the phone so when the GPS is used it's ready to go.

It does tend to keep the network up doing this though that does add to battery drain but not that much.

I tried stopping the service (with MemMaid) to save battery (i.e. by allowing network to shut off) and then could not get the GPS to work (or at least I didn't wait long enough for it to find sats on it's own which it would eventually do).

Re: GPS on Diamond with iGo 8, how to prime it?

Funny. As soon as I mentioned I don't need a primer, my Diamond couldn't find the GPS tonight. Granted I've only had the Diamond for 2 days, but that's a little frustrating...
