Question Data connection bug, or non-issue?

Hi all -

Does anyone know if the TD is bugged when it comes to the data connection not turning itself off after a certain amount of inactivity following data usage?

I'm using Juicy's 2.4.1 which definitely has improved my battery life to a certain degree anyway, but it would be nice if you didn't have to remember to manually turn off the data service after doing something like checking the weather, pulling e-mail, etc. in order to further conserve the battery. (My "perception" is that it seems like if I don't remember to turn off the data, my battery life is greatly shortened).

This would also allow things like the occasional automatic weather update, or casual 4hour push option for e-mail to be readily utilized without worrying about a reduced battery life as a result of doing so.

Am I missing something? Should the data connection be turning itself off? Optionally, is it possible to make this data timeout a manual setting/user-defined?

...or, are my premises flawed and I'm missing the way this eats battery power, and non-usage of data = no additional battery drain = no need to worry about manually turning off data connection when done with a data session?

I'm interested as to anyone's experience with this, and is there a solution?

Thanks!!!

Re: Data connection bug, or non-issue?

It is a good question. The behavior of the data connection is not consistent and it can cause problems like battery drain. For me, it also delayed (and prevented) the answering of calls. From what I have read so far in this forum, there are more guesses than answers. We need to monitor how this data connection affects other phone functions.

Perhaps, over time, we can get some clear answers to these questions:

Why does the data connection cause a delay in answering calls?
I know that it can, because I have tested it numerous times. Connection On and connection Off. But it does not happen to everyone. Speculation is that Advanced Config and/or Diamond tweak cause the problem. Only a hard reset solved the problem for me. I will be monitoring this function without Advanced Config or Diamond tweak installed. Maybe the registry setting that causes this problem can be isolated.

How does the Data Connection affect battery life?
I know that it does when it is active (white arrows). It is not yet clear whether a dormant connection causes an battery drain. I am inclined to believe that it does not and will be watching this closely over the next few days. I would like to know, one way or the other.

You can use Advanced Config. to set it to disconnect after a certain amount of time. I have it set to 1 minute. Goes dormant, one minute later turns off. A search should turn it up, if not i'll post it up.
