Issues with Mail after phone is sleeping

Hi all,

I am somewhat new to WM phones. I have setup my e-mail on a pop server and with hotmail. Both mail accounts work just fine when the phone is on and I am using it and also I have it plugged into to charge and it is not sleeping.

But when the phone goes to sleep it just does not check for mail at the specified interval. It seems to not check at all. When I bring it out of sleep it seems to check but nothing. I then do a manual check of the mail and all mail is downloaded.

So to review, when the phone is asleep it does not seem to check for mail that I have sent to hotmail or my pop server. Any other time it is fine.

Has anyone had this issue or something close to it? It is driving me nuts. I have not flashed to anything, just using stock Telus ROM.

I also spoke with HTC. They suggested a hard reset which I have done and it still seems to be there. Then to get a new phone if it continues.

Any help would be great. I hate to have to get a new one. Odds are it will do it also.

Dumb question but how are you putting your phone to sleep? Also, what notifications have you set up for your incoming mail?

Hey,

Well I have tested two ways. By pushing the power button, and by letting the phone do it by itself.

As far as notification, it has a sound and the middle button lights up. I hope that is what you where asking.

added: I guess also no one is having this problem, as no one except Jgillard responded. Not a dig, just can't understand this. Seems crappy I may
just bring the phone back. Seems cheap if it can't do this simple task.

It's not just you. My phone is a Telus version and I've noticed the same thing, but it's intermittant - sometimes it works great and other times I have to force a send/recieve.

Ok, so I am not going nuts. Thanks for letting me know, it is not just me.
I have done a hard reset and been testing all morning. It seems to be working not to bad now. I just need to be sure it is nothing something obvious before I try and get a new phone, cause I don't want to have to do that actually.

I would agree prior to my reset, it was also intermittant for me also. What are your thoughts?

Cheers

Re: Issues with Mail after phone is sleeping

I'm testing Juicy's Roms, so I'm always doing Hard Resets after each update. But somedays it seems to work just fine and other days it doesn't seem to grab any emails automatically, although if I leave it long enough (say overnight, and by morning) the emails will be there. It is very frustrating, and should just be one of those things that should work all the time. I don't think it is the phone (hardware), but rather WM6.1 or something to do with power savings. Also make sure you tick accept email when roaming, this did seem to help. Although I'm on Telus, the phone will sometimes roam to a Bell tower (or so I've read), and if this is what the phone considers roaming then you wouldn't get any emails. It could be your closest tower is not actually your providers tower, but your still allowed to use it.

Re: Issues with Mail after phone is sleeping

I just checked Juicy's Rom 2.4.1 and both of those registy settings are already set to 21.
So it will be interesting to find out if the email problem is fixed. Great find!!

Re: Issues with Mail after phone is sleeping

Hey Guys,

thanks so much for replying and talking about the issue. I am just happy it is not just me...

Sounds like you are correct in assuming it is not hardware and to look at software. Since someone seems to have a software solution.

Thanks again guys. Just so you know, it seems to be not doing to bad today, but as has been said, it can go off at any time.

I will try and do my first flash today or tomorrow. I am a little uneasy about it, but hey everyone seems to have no problems.

Cheers
