What is the sensor in the diamond earpiece

Anyone notice that in the speaker on front of phone that you put to your ear
that on left site is a clear plastic window and a sensor

wonder what this is for

I covered it and nothing happened

anyone know?

I believe it is the ambient light sensor.

If I am not mistaken, It is the proximity sensor for when you are in a call. It turns off the screen when you put it up to your ear.

Not sure though. The above poster may be correct.

Actually its the sensor that detects light and adjusts the dimmer. If you put you finger over it it actually dims the back light. Put a flashlight on it and it increases the back light brightness.

You mean it gets darker as it gets darker and brighter as it gets brighter? Isn't that weird? Shouldn't it get brighter as it got darker?

No that makes sense. If your in the dark you dont need your screen to be as bright as it can be and when the bright sun is shining on it you need to make the screen brighter bc its harder to see
