If you can't get the phone into bootloader mode ... Which is the tri-color screen as mention above .. Then yes you are definately bricked .. But however if you can get into your tri-color screen you are not just need to re-flash a new rom .. Try to hard reset your phone sometimes that works.. But if your phone won't do anything .. Not even charge .. Then yea it's dead ...

How would you repair it? You would have to replace the memory chip on the phone. It's just a diamond...I'm sure it's cheaper to just buy a used one. They're pretty old devices.
