Screen Dead, DIY?

I've google a bit to get me an idea that this is possible, but I kinda wanted to get a bit more feed back.

Here's the Situation....Sprint Diamond phone that no longer registers any touch. Lcd works fine, I didn't recently drop it, but I have dropped it before. I flashed and reflashed various roms from Stock to customs. I don't have TEP so no free repairs or replacements for me.

I can still make calls and hear stuff going on if I listen, but I can't any registered touches from the screen. Hard buttons work fine.

I'm pretty sure it's the digitizer...right? The terminology for all of this is a bit over my head, but I'm not afraid to open it up and replace the screen/digitizer if need be.

What I want to know is what I exactly need to replace screen or digitizer or both. Since the LCD works fine I'm assuming just digitizer.

Anyone know a good place to buy it besides ebay? Does this sound about right and would replacing this part restore touch functionality?

If anyone else has any other video's/tutorials or links to help I'd really appreciate it....

Here's what I've scrounged up so far:

Ok that's what I've come up with so far....Hope someone can chime in....I need good place for parts (cheap hopefully) and someone to tell me i'm on the right track or any other tips.

Thanks guys/gals

Wirelessly posted (HTC Diamond: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP)

Yeah, it definitely sounds like the digitizer. It could be that there is a bad connection where the digitizer plugs into the main board so check that.
I found the service manual for the diamond but looks like it was posted in that thread you linked to. Other than ebay or just doing a google search for the parts I don't have any suggestions where to get the parts.
If you have to replace the digitizer you might consider buying the digitizer and lcd in an assembly to make installation easier. That way you don't have to worry about getting any dust or scratches in between the digitizer and lcd.
Good Luck! :)

i agree totally about your suggestion to avoid dust between. if you cant find just the part cheap, look for a bad esn diamond. then just harvest the parts you need. good thing about this is you will have a backup of everything so if another part fails you will already have it. good luck!

Re: Screen Dead, DIY?

I think it's recommend to buy the digitizer along with the screen, correct? I've found a few sites that sell the digitizer for around twenty dollars, but I'm guessing that is just the digitizer. Will this be a significant factor in putting it all back together....Meaning will it be possible to do it by just buying the digitizer or should i look for combo packages and avoid just getting the digitizer alone altogether?

Good idea about the bad esn diamonds i'll look into that...

I'm thinking if it only costs 20 to 40 dollars then I'll take a shot otherwise if the price starts to get up there I might just look for a used Diamond or other phone online to outright replace my phone which is why i'm nitpicking over the digitizer vs digitizer/screen question.

For instance:
http://cgi.ebay.com/US-NEW-OEM-Lens-...ht_2356wt_1161

this is just the digitizer i'm assuming or is this a digitzer and assembly...I'm getting a bit confused on what is what with the terminology??? I know this does not include lcd but it looks some what costly to get digitizer and lcd so i'm hoping to avoid that.

I can keep a clean environment when i'm working so dust or scratches isn't that much of a concern, but mainly level of difficulty and cost if going just the digitizer route is plausible.

I'm hoping it maybe just a bad connection like someone mentioned....HOPING :) I'll dive into it this weekend for sure considering I don't have much to lose and I pulled my contacts/photos off the phone already via usb.
