"your warranty is voided because of illegal software"
 

So my phone stopped working and Bell says that they won't repair it due to "illegal software" being on the phone. I had WinMo 6.5.

Even if I tell them that I had another version of Windows Mobile on there how could that ever cause the phone to stop working??? It makes no sense.

flash the stock rom, relock the phone then take it back.

ALWAYS flash back to the stock rom before taking your phone in for repairs! that's rule #1!

I don't know. I guess the internal storage is on a micro SD card slot inside and they removed it to check the files?

anyways, back to my original post,

can they really deny my warranty request just because i put winmo 6.5 on it? should i deny that i did?

Well...I guess they can if they choose to. :dontknow:
I would get it back from them and try to format internal storage and if possible reflash the shipped rom. Then, go through Asurion directly if you have the insurance or if you are still within the year warranty with htc get it repaired/replaced through them.

the internal rom is attached to the phone, it is not a card inside or anything like that.

they may of got the phone to boot up and saw it had win6.5 on it. flashing a new rom is against the EULA/TOS in the contract you sign.
