PPC 6700 Ugrades

Hello ppcgeeks, this is my first post. I just ordered a PPC 6700 phone off eBay that I am looking to use on the Aliant (Bell) CDMA network. I've already prepared a WM6 Oem using the most recent kitchen.

I've heard of three different upgrades that I am a little confused about. I've heard of RUU, Radio, and Firmware updates/upgrades. I read that upgrading the firmware is better for loudness and bluetooth and other things also, but I've also read that people don't recommend you do it. Could somebody straighten me out a bit and give me some recommendations?

Also, what parts should I do before I activate the phone (I don't wanna do it more than once because of the activation fee)

Thanks, Craig

Goto this thread first and get the stock ROM for Bell: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=27123

Then activate the phone. This should wipe any weird crap the previous owner may have done and reduce problems with activation. Once you have it activated, start reading through the stickies and make your own opinion as to what ROM to upgrade to and whether or not to upgrade the radio software.

If you DO decide to go with WM6 or 6.1, I would recommend updating to 6, THEN to 6.1 to avoid hassles. I took my old Apache to AKU 3.5, then, WM6, then WM6.1. However, on my new Apache, when I tried to jump from stock ROM to WM6.1 I had many problems. So I hit it with 6.0 FIRST, then went to 6.1.

Hope this helps a bit.

I jumped from WM5 to WM6.1. I tried WM6 but had BT issues.

Yep that's the way to go. Get it activated first. Then play with the ROM. I do suggest a hard reset when you get it to remove any of the previous owners info etc that might interfere, and you'll get to see if it is a stock ROM. If it isn't stock I'd recommend flashing the stock carrier ROM, activating it then having a blast designing your own ROM.

Yeah I flashed mine about 85-90 times all the way back from the AKU 3.5 kitchen :)

Thanks guys. As for uploading radio (which I think is referred to as RUU in BuildOS), can you guys give me some advice or point me in the direction of some usefull information. I'm done some digging around and haven't found enough info.

RUU = ROM Upgrade Utiliity (it's the program that flashes ROMs of all types)

Don't bother flashing your radio. Little if any impact.

It's hard to turn these into a brick. Just put it in bootloader and try again.
