Ported WM6, ext ROM won't install, any ideas?

I decided to reinvent the wheel and ported the core OS from the Cingular 8525 (Hermes). I know, I know "just use the kitchen". Well, I would just rather use a shipping production build of WM6 which is why I went to the trouble.

Anyhow, it works great, very stable, no problems except one - extROM won't auto install. The customization process starts and says it's installing the various CABs, but it goes through them very quickly. When it restarts, I can see nothing actually installed. If I install Total Commander and browse to extended_rom and run autorun.exe manually, it works perfectly.

Anyone seen this before and have any idea of the cause?
