Problem with Chess game in WM6
After d/l and flashing new Helmi kitchen, chess game now crashes.
I get an error: Error connecting to the web service. Try Again? RETRY / CANCEL Retry does not do anything and when cancel I get this: The game must now exit. The next time the game will start with the local engine as opponent instead of web service. Please MTV, pimp my ride..... j/k Please anyone, help me resolve this issue. Thanks in advance. |
Yes unfortunately that game is abandonware and the author shut down the server which facilitated online game play. That's why you're getting that error.
The game should work fine as long as you don't try to enable multiplayer mode. If it's somehow stuck in that mode you may need to do a hard reset. |

** Just did a hard reset to see the options - everything was fine at default level set to play local and not web (multiplayer). Played a new game and a minute later the same error came up again. Is there a reg setting I could change ??? or do u know of anything else that might solve this? TIA! Thanks again for your help with this and the new kitchen. Regards. |
yeah
i have the same problem... damn chess game! im going to sniff through the reg ... if it has any keys... lol |
We might be able to use Pocket Hosts to set it to access an alternate location, but setting up the alternate location so that the app won't crash could be difficult.

Actually I may have caused this inadvertantly... those of you having problems please download the cab from here:
http://www.archive.org/details/tucow..._Iliescu_Chess Install it and see if the problem goes away. Thanks |

when installing, an popup came up stating I needed "netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab" installed before I install the game. I continued anyhow and it ran fine. FYI Thanks again ! |

Also, please download the latest ppcgeeks_oem.rar file from helmi's thread above (at the bottom of his first post). That has this issue fixed.
