Newbie Android questions

hello,

I tried out the Nexus one. When it was first released it wouldn't sync MS Exchange calendar events or select folders for syncing with Exchange. You could buy touchdown to get around this shortcoming but while I liked touchdown, it seemed to much all in one as opposed to native apps like WM has or iphone has.

Does it now let you do this natively - both calendar sync with MS exchange and select folders?

Is there a voice command app so that I can dial by name from my address book using my BT headset?

Exchange support is still kind of lame compared to WM. There's a CorpCal.apk file that should give you calendar integration, but as far as I can tell the only option lets you sync 1 month of data (not sure if this is just for emails or the calendar too).

I've tried TouchDown and it seemed to work pretty well. You can have it sync your contacts into the Android contacts app, but your calendar, tasks, and email are all from their app. Its has A TON more options though.

For folders, the N1 will show you a list of your folders, but it won't sync them until you open one up, and even then the most you can get is the last month's worth I think.

If you have the google search thing on your homescreen you can tap the speaker and do voice commands and search your phone. I haven't really used this much yet since I've had this phone for less than a week.

Thanks for the feedback. The Android shows some promise but until it has has those features in full functionality I guess I'm stuck with my old small screened WM phone. Of course WM7 is coming and I'm very interested in it but I've had my current phone for 3 years. I tried the diamond and the battery life was wretched. I would have liked the imagio but Sprint doens't carry it.

Does the N1 not have Moxie Mail?
It's on the Moment and works great, syncs email, contacts, calendar and tasks

Re: Newbie Android questions

Nope, no Moxier Mail :(

You can buy it in the Market for like $30, but from the comments, it looks like it doesn't sync into the Android phone book like Touchdown does.

that bites, I haven't used TouchDown so I wouldn't know about that program I do know Moxie Mail works to my liking, I thought 2.1 was supposed to have this feature built-in?

Boo on having to pay for the app
how about this??? http://www.nexeo.net/?p=93
It's free, I'm going to try it on my phone, even though it's not a Nexus nor an HTC :)

Installed it on my Moment, it doesn't do push mail, you have to set a time for it to sync the least amount of time is 15 minutes

Re: Newbie Android questions

CorpCal works fine to pull up your Exchange calendar, but like I said, you can only do 1 month which blows.

Everything else works fine to my liking. The way the folders work are fine, and contacts are fine. No Tasks though.

So if we could only change the 1 Month thing to All, I would be happy with the built-in Exchange support.

I wouldn't waste the money on Moxier, I didn't find it that impressive and have since removed it completely from both of my Sprint Android phones.
