That's interesting since they really never even advertised their PC OS a ton...and advertising for winmo was non-existent except for what tmobile did with the HD2. Time will tell..

Well, remember, Microsoft does not make PCs, they make software for the PCs, when a new OS comes out (check Vista and Windows 7), they spend big $$$ on advertising. Are you telling me you don't see any of the Windows 7 ads on TV ? You must not be watching TV.

Microsoft normally leaves the advertising to the vendors, as MS is not going to pay to sell companies hardware. It is the same for PocketPC and Windows Moble (pre 6.5)

As for the discussion on hand...

This will make or break Windows Phone 7, Microsoft needs to go big or go home here...

They need to promote, Business, gaming and facebook etc. They need to play on everything Apple and google has done but, better.

If MS gets this wrong...bye bye WP....

Re: Where's the marketing?

Give it a moment... You won't be able to watch TV without hearing about it.

"It's no surprise, then, that Microsoft is expected to spend at least $400 million marketing the new operating system. TechCrunch reported Aug. 26 that Microsoft and its partners -- OEMs and wireless carriers -- could spend upward of $1 billion on the Windows Phone 7 launch."

Windows 7 - $1 billion to rehabilitate the brand

BP - $93.4 million to rehabilitate the brand after causing the largest disaster in the history of mankind: http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/23537

Frankly, I would bet the odds are better I'll buy BP gas over every buying a Windows phone again.

Yep, just through a boat load of cash at the problem.... They might not grab #1 any time soon but, as long in the first 6 months they can get number 2 or 3, they'll be ok...

Windows Mobile was once one of the greatest phones out there, it's funny how you move your resources in another area, almost forget one market and how much money you need to spend to get back in....

Gee, just think what they could have become if they just sent the billion dollars directly into development for fixing WM 6.x a few years ago. They COULD have been been top dog by now instead of the runt of the litter.

I agree but, instead of dumping money into WM, they just kept the same model but, it hit their target market. Mostly corporate people are where WM is pretty big as Apple does not even really touch this market. It's between blackberry and Microsoft for that croud.

Apple really opened the doors, because the "smartphone" started to become accepted by everyone, not just business or hobbiest (like us).

When Apple started selling tons of them, then with the Apple store selling tons of apps, they started the path that everyone will follow, Android did and Microsoft is too with WP7...(and started with 6.5)

Everyone else takes 2-3 times before they get it right, Microsoft it takes 7.....

Don't worry about the marketing thing, this fall (within a month of release), you won't be able to turn on a TV or radio with out hearing something about WP7

Know what, me too, kind of. Only to find out that Verizon won't have any phones at launch just to piss me off more with them... (or have the worst phone available).

Still thinking about moving to AT&T...They always have cooler phones...(excluding the iPhone)

I would think about moving to AT&T, but I am on Sprint's Sero plan which is $30, it is too cheap for me to leave.

If Sprint takes forever to get WP7 I can just move to Android for another $10-$20 a month.
