That is one of the best quotes ever. I chuckle every time I think of it

Hmm... maybe we can make a "Best PPCG Quotes Thread!" I'll go do it now.

Re: Dare to use chinese PPC?

i dont know about PPC's from this site but a friend of mine has a indash car unit from this site that he got for around $200 and it looks better and has more functions than a $900 alpine unit. So far he had it for about 6 month with no problems, cant beat dvd/cd/mp3 player with 2 usb inputs, remote and slide out 5" touchscreen for under $200 shipped. I have a Chinese knockoff iPhone and although its not iPhone(not even close) with the right ROM it runs pretty decent and cost me about $60 on ebay(brand new, dual sim and unlocked(well they never are locked to start with))

Re: Dare to use chinese PPC?

Well the kind of testing that is done on these phones are far from truly legit manufacturers.. Legit manufacturers spend a heck lot of time abusing these phones to make sure they don't fall apart after a few months use.

Knockoffs "usually"(when it comes to phones) are made with crappy material(this I know firsthand) and the radiation levels far surpass what the FCC "allow" from what I've heard. Other than that.. if your phone breaks for some reason, you're usually left without a warranty or any signs of customer service at all. Oh yeah also the exploding batteries..

Link to NYT here, but parts of it seems one sided so I don't know whether the high radiation part is really true, or if the batteries really have a higher chance of exploding just because they are fakes.

For fun, I'd probably get one. As my main phone? I would really rather not deal with the hassle.

My .02

Re: Dare to use chinese PPC?

I would totally sport one of those WinMo 6 "iPhones" just for the WTF factor. I've always liked the iPhone form factor but I don't like Apple & their locked-down BS. If I could get WM on one that'd be uber-cool.

Damn I'm thinking about ordering one now. They actually look pretty cool!

Re: Dare to use chinese PPC?

A buddy of mine has a knock off iPhone from some eastern country and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. He walked into the ATT store and activated it no problems and saved a few hundred dollars in purchasing the phone to boot. Don't go knocking the knock offs their are some pretty damn good ones out there.

However, i'm not sure if a knock off sprint would work unless you were to take a clean esn from a similar OEM device (thats junk) and program the phone with it before activation. Which is probably what is happening.

Good point. If somebody produces a product that other people actually want and are willing to pay for, then more power to the manufacturer. Yes, eventually they will be large enough to afford sterile manucatruring environments, and then I'll consider the product. However until then, I won't buy. But if they have a market, then more power to them. Do whatever, but I won't likely be buying. I demand a certian level of manufacturing standards, and will not waiver from those standards. It is up to the manufacturer to meet my expectations, not reduce my expectations to meet cheap manufacturers.

As an old saying goes, "Jack of all trades, master of none", except for PC repair. Even if your PC is a royal POS that won't even start, I can get it back, and you will not lose any data. It might take a day of labor, but I will be able to restore it. As part of PC repair, I am fully aware of the nessecary procedures in order to not unintentionally cause ESD, or contaminate the working surface.

I don't use an iPhone. I use an HTC Touch Pro (GSM). It was made in Taiwan, not the PRC. I will not use a neutered device, or one built for less then the cost of slave labor.
