I'm not aware of any other way of confirming it outside of removing the battery.

Coz

if you don't have a roll of aluminum foil handy, just go to wendy's (any fastfood) and order about 20 burgers, keep the foil wrappers, thats about 1 lb of foil

well, you can go into settings/system/device lock and set it so any button wakes the phone, but then you will have annoying phone waking up in your pocket everywhere you go problems, as well as pocket dialing your best friends house at 2 am and waking up her parents, causing them to be very cross. best idea is, just remember if you shut it off or not

Try taking the stylus out. If the phone is on, the screen will come on. If the phone is off, nothing will happen...

Not sure if that will work in this case or not. OP hasn't specified if he has a Mogul or Pro. I don't remember the Mogul waking when you remove the stylus or slide out the keyboard. Does it?

That did it, slide out the keyboard woke it up. I had so hoped there was SOMETHING. Thanks soooo much for the assistance.
