What is a .CAB file?

Anytime I download a file available here, it saves as a winRar archive file, and when I extract files the folder I get contains an XML file and then other applications.

So what exactly is a .CAB file?

Re: What is a .CAB file?

a cab file is a packaged installer for windows mobile devices...if you dl a cab file do not extract it just copy it over to your device and it will extract and install from there.

So how come all the CAB files I download here are downloaded as "WinRar" archive files? Does it have to do with the program I have set as my default to extract files?

ya Winrar sees a cab as an archive file just like a zip or RAR
