Is PPCkitchen done ?
I've been trying to get to the PPCKitchen.org site for a few days now and just gets "this page cannot be displayed"
Is PPCkitchen done ? I know support for WM devices is down quite a bit but, I have an Imago that I would LOVE ot create my own custom rom with and I used PPCK all the time with my old TP2. Are they down for good or ? If so, too bad, it was a great program and was hoping we would see something like that for WP7 at some point. |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Hey DavidinCT! Thank you for your interest in PPCk! Yes, it is an amazing site for Windows Mobile users. We are still in discussion about the future of the Site. It is good to hear that there are some still interested, as it gives more weight to keeping it going. Stay tuned... I will keep you posted through this thread!

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Thankyou Tinkerbell for all the work you did on PPCKitchen. I still have a PPC-6700 that I love to show off because it has one of your builds on it. It is amazing that a phone that I purchased in 2005 is still able to give good service. I was sad when I found the site was down because I was hoping to use it to cook up something for one of our TP2s. But thanks again!
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Ah, so someone made a thread about this. I had contacted Tinkerbell on her page, but I suppose this is a better option. The problem I found was the new build of BuildOS being pushed back further, and further. BuildOS was a large draw to the site, and the old one just wasn't cutting it for newer devices as nothing was updated. WinMo isn't dead just yet, and I honestly prefer it over Android. It is the only mobile OS that appeals to me. Never took to Android, and WP7 is way too Apple like (everything locked down).
Anyways, here is one more throwing in their support for seeing PPCKitchen brought back online. |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
For an official statement on the future of PPCkitchen.org, please see GGuruUSA's post here, post #215. It was a wonderful time and a great community. Thank you to all those who worked so hard to make PPCk a success all those years.

It's truly sad to see such a great product go away. It had hope with unlocked WP7 devices (creating apps with your XAPs and other things with mango) and could of opened up the market like it was with WM. It would of been great if someone could of found access to builds of WP7 to make it fun again. It's a end of a very important moble phone time. There was a time where new roms would come out almost every day, and we'd be flashing our phones 2-3 times a week to see the new feature that Microsoft decied to add to WM. (also a time where lots more traffic was at this site) I wish the server would come back up but, I know the costs of running a server and with only a small amount of interest (even 500 people), it does not pay the cost or the bills to run a public server with lots of data moving. When it comes to 6.0, 6.1 or 6.5 devices, I will always remember this great program and miss it... |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Damn, that sure puts a damper on your mood. I suppose then it's time to learn how to make a rom the way everyone else around here does.
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
You can still use it to build roms. We can always recreate the downloads section if people still want to download it.
The v2 repos can be hosted as well, if people want to take over loading it up. |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
I would still like to download the files...
I have a trusty PPC6700 that i've been in love with for ever (still does the job for me!) and i would love to actually be able to still modify it, any chance however of making 1 more version of buildOS that DOESN'T need to connect to the internet to be used. So that people can still use it if they need it even long after the server goes offline. I know my PPC6700 is going to be in my possession for several years to come (hell, i don't even use it as a phone anymore at this point, basically its a media device and book reader - but currently screwed up with my current ROM build ). PPC Kitchen going down was bad timing for me, as i just clean-installed windows 7, and tried to re-install buildos to fix the errors i made in my previous build. Sadly to say, all the ins and outs of building a rom manually are lost on me, and i tried that 6 few years ago and bricked my first 6700 was glad to have found BuildOS. and now i miss it |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
I know I would not use it every day because I have moved onto a Windows Phone 7 device but, I would like to build some clean roms for 2 of my backup phones.
If the download and update servers were up for a little while, I could do this. |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
How much data are we talking about hosting? What were some of the stats from before?
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Please restore fileserver! my Apache is in dire need of a new ROM! and all the pre-built roms i've found (other than stock WM5 roms) are flawed (as in won't read the sd card (and what good is the Apache without the sd card?)!!!
I need my PPCKitchen back!!!! |

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
I just picked up a touch pro, and would love to be able to build my own rom using ppckitchen. I used to build roms for my tp2 and vogue with ppckitchen. I hope you guys can get the site back up. I believe ppckitchen is the most user friendly rom building there is.
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
I was wondering if the files still needed hosting. I was under the impression that NuAngel had offered you additional hosting before if you needed, and I am sure he would provide it even now.
The only reason I stopped using PPCK was because I got used to v2 and could not get a working build after a reformat. I would love to pick up and continue building my XevRev ROM series for HTC Vogue, but I need a working build of PPCK v2 to do it. :) |

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Humm... well, do you have the carrier files for Syringa, or access to them? It is really up to that carrier if they will accept your Titan onto their network. What carrier is it branded as?
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
It's branded on Alltel, last used on verizon... Syringa told me to take it to the mall and get it flashed. The guy at the mall said he didn't know how to do it anymore for that old of a phone. I searched around here for anything about Syringa with no luck.. I just remember BuildOS had it as a carrier.. So I would think someone would know the 2 numbers I need to change in the phone. Ones the PRL and the other NAM right... Hopefully with WM coming back out on new phones there will be more excitement about PPCKitchen again. I wish I had $ to buy a new phone, but rent was my #1 issue :)

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Any chance of gett this up again I just changed from a Titan to a TP2 and can't build:( who do I need to sleep with or bribe to get it back up and just so I can download the files...please...

Personally, I used Sharkie. Now I just run Android on my TP2. |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Thanks, and before that was an apache, all great phones, and until Tom Tom is on Mango will stay with WM6.5. I found a build by Jackos so will give those a try. Funny how you don't realise how much you miss something until it's gone :( would be great to still be able to access the apps that BuildOS had.

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
It's nice to see so many people cared about our work. It was a lot of fun. Ppck ran its natural course and was around for quite a while. When android came out we lost a big chunk of our userbase and then when MS stopped development of windows Mobile 6.5 it didn't make sense to continue on.
P.S. We blame Lenny for the downfall of windows mobile (and anything else we can) and Nex for ruining all of our women. -vzg |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
If I already have PPCKitchen on my PC, is there a way to run it without the server?
I was just starting to have fun with it, and now I can't log in anymore. |

Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
Is the update server working? Is there any way I get access the files for the TP2?
|
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
i know this is a way OLD thread --
Can the author simply put this up for open source or freeware or something? There's a lot of things these old phones are still useful for and the BuildOS makes life so much easier... doing a kitchen manually is so cumbersome and tedious, this made things so easy. Who needs a paypal donation to license me the Visual Studio code? |
Re: Is PPCkitchen done ?
The owner of the concept and the files still has them on his personal server. He would need a home for these files if they were to be made publicly available again. As I recall, more is needed than a simple ftp.
