Need advice for Old GSM user new to the CDMA would

Hi,
I'm used to SIM cards and SIM readers , in particular for maintaining/transfering contact lists(phone books) I bought a windows mobile phone because I knew I could sync it up with Outlook.

Android seems to be exploding all over and I hate to limit myself.

What are some of the techniques used to transfer phone books to different phones?

For example my wife just went from a pantech to a palm and got Verizon to copy the phone book over. this doesn't make sense to me, what if she lost her phone, sheez what a mess.
thanks

usually you can sync them via things like gmail..or you can manually copy them over as a vcard.

Correct - Exchange, GMail, Yahoo! and Windows Live Hotmail are good ways to ensure your contacts and other stuff are backed up, and are accessible on things other than your phone.
