Windows CE to Moblie 6.5 Tablet flash?

Can I take a 7" tablet PC running windows CE and re-flash it via Mobile Devie center to run Mobile 6.5? Reason revolves around the fact that I want a larger screen than I'm presently using, Dell Axim x51v 3.75". A 7" screen would be much more user friendly. I'm running a thrid party program that is not compatible with CE or Andriod, hence my delima. No options on using another program. The only product with the option I loking for is the Qi Smartbook U2000. It is way to pricey. many Windows CE tablets selling for under $150.00.

Windows CE is the kernel..you mean its running Windows Embedded?

To be frank, while its not "impossible" most likely the bootloader needs to be hacked to allow for flashing custom roms...then the rom has to be cooked in the format that the Tablet uses...aka chances are its not going to happen..

Why won't the program run on the windows embedded system? what error does it give you?

Re: Windows CE to Moblie 6.5 Tablet flash?

The tablets and or devices I'm looking at all run Windows CE 6.0. The manufacturer of the program I use on my Axim (windows Mobile 5.1.70) tells me it will not run on a Windows CE 6.0 device.

"3D wouldn't run on the old CE for Handheld lineup. Although Microsoft kept a small branch alive, the successor to the original CE family lineup was Pocket PC and the successor to Pocket PC was Windows Mobile. Most Windows Mobile devices are phone sized, but there were a few larger ones created (i.e. the HTC Advantage, and the Mangrove- http://liliputing.com/2010/03/c-motech-introduces-7-inch-mangrove-tablet-with-windows-mobile-6-5-3.html ) Now the successor to Windows Mobile is Windows Phone 7 OS, only in the smaller size thus far(screen size limited by Microsoft).

However most tablet manufactures realize that it's definitely worth more bang for the buck to produce real Windows 7 tablets instead of trying to use the more limited CE or WM operating systems. So there are actually a lot more true Windows 7 tablets out there, which are capable of running the full-featured version of 3D, rather the a mini mobile app. "

Truth is I haven't tried it.

That quote is mistaken...

Windows CE is named after the kernel not the OS..let me explain..

Window Mobile branched off of Windows Embedded CE..

Windows CE 5.2 is the kernel used in Windows Mobile 6.5..

Windows CE 6.0 is a newer kernel used in the ZuneHD actually and the indows Embedded CE 6.0 OS..

Right now windows mobile is effectively dead and merged back into the Windows Embedded tree..

aka Windows Phone 7 uses same kernel Windows CE 6.0/Windows CE 7.0 hybrid..but the OS is completely different..

Windows Embedded CE 7.0 is the new OS thats continuing windows mobile..it is based of the Windows CE 7.0 kernel..

----

Anyways to the point..Windows Embedded CE 6.0 is actually newer then Windows Mobile 6.5 (at least kernel wise)..

if the manufacturer says it won't work then most likely it won't..

even if it were possible, what resolution(etc) is the screen?

Youd be hard pressed to even find a version ported to the right resolution Id think..

I personally would spend time on XDA...
