i'm a noob and new to smart phones; rooting
 

i've seen this word rooting all over this and other web sites. What is the advantage of doing this and how ? what are the disadvantages of this and why ? and roms what's that ? how about kernels(?) ? are there any given ways to do these without bricking your phone ? :scratch:

karl .......i barely know how to do ANYTHING on this device (moto photon 4g w/sprint ) would this a good idea for a true noob ? i wouldn't know a good whatever is after root than what was before......

I recommend you read everything you can find about rooting and adb before you try to root

thanx for this post, great advice. i have a photon and to root it is no easy task without adb knowledge.

To flashing you just the ROM,kernel,theme,mod on your SD card then boot into recovery select flash zip, find the zip u put on the SD card and flash it

I'm greatful for the advice. Sure don't want to brick this phone , paid to much for it. Is rooting/flashing something a noob should consider?

Photon was hard(er) to flash than any other android device I have flashed but if you read lots its not bad. Not really wirth it yet imo plus I lost 4g. Herd there is a patch out now though.
