Listing contacs by last name?

My co-worker has a Motorola Droid on Verizon. I believe its running Android 2.1 not sure (whatever its shipped with).

Anyhow, he wanted the contacts listed by last name rather than the first name. We were wondering if there was a way we could do this with out going through every contact in the list and putting every contact in the " last name, first name" format manually.

i think i read somewhere that froyo does this natively. So app devs probably aren't making it a big priority at this point.
