HTC Incredible to replace Eris??

rumor going around saying the new HTC Incredible will replace the Eris. Seems early to me but makes sense since the Hero's replacement is the Legend. That means the Eris lifespan was only 6 months, kinda crazy.

Maybe there wont be no 2.1 update if this rumor is true.

http://droidtalk.net/rumor-htc-incre...ng-droid-eris/

The folks over at Berry Scoop are reporting that they’ve been told by a trusted source that the HTC Incredible will be landing on Verizon sometime around April first. What’s hard to believe about this information is that the source is also claiming that Verizon will be taking the Droid Eris end of life on the same date. Why would HTC and Verizon put all the time and money into developing and testing the Eris just to take it end of life after five months of service. Not to mention why is Verizon currently testing the Android 2.1 update for the Eris that’s scheduled to be released at the end of the first quarter if they’re going to take it off the shelf on the first day of the second quarter?
Another thing their source told them is that Verizon is viewing the Incredible as their version of the Nexus One. Why would Verizon view the Incredible as their version of the Nexus One when they are in fact getting the Nexus One, rumored to be made available as soon as March 23rd. Not to mention the Incredible only sports 256MBof RAM and 512MB of ROM, while the Nexus One boasts 512MB of RAM and ROM.
Things just don’t add up or make a whole lot of business sense for the two companies involved (HTC and Verizon). Guess we’ll have to wait and see on this one.

Re: HTC Incredible to replace Eris??

Well prolly cause the incredible verizon will be able offer it a nice price to grab new customers. vs the n1 u have to go through google and prolly pay full price.etc.. as far as the eris eol so soon.. i doubt it.. It will be the low end with the moto dev.. for android.. while the other 3 will be the high end..

Re: HTC Incredible to replace Eris??

Regarding EOL for the Eris, you asked how could a company spend all that money to promote a device then EOL it after only five months.
The simple answer is the same as the answer to the question about how can utility companies, gas companies, stores, and even governments raise prices?

"Because we can."

In business terms, just suppose that they have already achieved ROI (return on investment) with the Eris. Any additional Eris sales, without updated advertising, would be gravy.
Now further suppose that VZW announces EOL for the Eris and that its replacement is the cooler, slicker, more powerful, more up-to-date Incredible. They will have already predicted how many Eris owners will drop the Eris just to get the cooler, slicker, etc, Incredible. And pay the unsubsidized price for it.
Bunch o' money with no ad campaign.
Also, it could just be that HTC is offering VZW a real sweet deal on the Incredible so they (HTC) won't have to continuing persuing the Android 2.x update for the Eris.

Could also be that the "trusted source" at Berry Scoop is full of gas...

Re: HTC Incredible to replace Eris??

I don't believe this one. It doesn't make sense to put the Eris at end of life especially considering 'Ed Zachary's points. HTC still doesn't have brand recognition on a broad scale. They would not remove the best price point android device in the Verizon lineup and replace it with a $200-$300 phone. Also, just looking at the costs to build the Incredible, there is no way it is going to be released at the $0 w/2year pricepoint. This will phone will have a $500-$600 price point without a contract which means $200-$300 w/ 2year.
