it's the rom the phone shipped with? whats the point of it?

It will allow you to downgrade the OTA update if you took it. A second thing is it makes the bootloader code more accessible.

its good also if something goes wrong with your phone and you have it rooted you can reflash this and it will be like it was never rooted so your warranty is good on the phone yet.
