Phone signal is weak

Hey folks, I'm new here and think it's a great site. I must say thanks to those who work hard on the site and the many ROMS available.
So my luck... I cancelled my landline and got a diamond instead. Problem is, my signal SUCKS!!! Is there any setting that may help increase the signal? I'm willing to trade battery life etc.
Thanks....

Re: Phone signal is weak

Have either of you tried the Roam only option in the area (I assume your house) where the signal is bad? This option isn't included in the stock ROM so you'd have to be flashed to another (unless there is a CAB for it, I cannot remember).

Re: Phone signal is weak

make sure your PRL is up to date. Updating mine (for telus) made my phone have 2 bars (steady) in my underground solid concrete garage...

Re: Phone signal is weak

If the service being bad is just an issue with your home location, I would suggest the Sprint AIRAVE if that service is available in your area.

Re: Phone signal is weak

how are you guys reading signal? if you going by bars.... then they are in accurate. you could have great signal and still show 2 bars. use field test to check actuall db rating and SNR

Re: Phone signal is weak

Well I haven't tried forced roaming or field test. To be honest... im not tech illiterate but i am new to cell phones. I've dropped calls in my house and had choppy calls.... how do I go about doing both a field test and forcing roam? I am also running juicy 3.1

Re: Phone signal is weak

My diamond has always been like constantly at 1-2 bars maximum. After i updated my PLR, it went down to just 1 Bar inside any building whatsoever. Outside sometimes it goes to 3.
Doesn't bother me too much, as I rarely place calls. When I do, everything seems fine. I just text and e-mail mostly.

This is why I can't stand the "more bars in more places" trash that ATT spews, it's just inaccurate.

This goes double when you consider the fact that the Diamond displays EVDO bars by default. I usually have 2-3 evdo bars, but 7 1X.

Not to mention that in your house is not always gonna be a great hotbed for cdma signal strength. You might talk to Sprint about getting an Airrave.
