The customer service rep will apply the discount for you. Say that you are a student, and member of Student rate. They may ask you for your student ID number so have it ready.

I actually just looked into this promotion and T-mobile is actually offering the the GS3125 bucks.

I recently was looking up some good deals on tmobile and my friend sent me this - it s from the t_mobile advantage direct website and It gave me a good discount on the GSIII an added 10% off to my bill. You have to order over the phone though by calling 866-464-8662 and using promo code 13997 TMO FAV . You have to mention that you are affiliated with the discoutn website student rate. no one will check. some info on the flyer attached about the devices qualifying for a discount.

this offer actually has gotten better since my last post. they now offer a $50 account credit for all new customers. Flyer attached as well
