JVM Error 517 - Can I back up my data?
 

My blackberry is stuck in the JVM 517 error loop and I desperately need to make a backup of my organizer data (particularly of my calendar, to do list and notes). Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to back up my data using Desktop Manager but I am able to use BBSAK to save all COD files (I have a curve 8310 and I was able to save 270 COD files totaling 26MB) but don’t know if this is helpful or not. I was also able to retrieve the log of events just before the error loop started and in case this is of any help in solving the problem here it is:

Not sure if this will help but someone said try holding down the power button for about 45 seconds. Sounds like too easy of a fix to me. Or have you solved the problem already?

JVM 517 error means that your system file is corrupted. the only options you have is to re-install the device software, or boot into safe mode to see if you can uninstall whatever app caused the corruption. unfortunately, nothing about being able to do back ups when the error occurs.

Nope, still haven't been able to fix my problem... I'm not concerned about making my Blackberry work again, I'm most concerned with retrieving my personal information from my Blackberry. I think it's very odd that a 3rd party program like BBSAK is able to access all the Blackberry data and make a backup of all the CODs while Desktop Manager by Blackberry itself is not even able to connect to my Blackberry. The way I see it, this is a tremendous shortcoming on the part of RIM, but I may not fully understand the problem...

Has anyone been able to recover personal data with a JVM Error 517?

i've been trying to look around for a solution for ya, but everything i've found/read does not say about being able to retrieve personal data on the device.
