i need help trying to reroot evo!!

so have to evo 3d's.. so i tryed to unroot one so i can sell it and i got it back to stock rom stock recovery but never got it to say s-on.. now my friend wants me to root it for him.. so the phone already has s-off.. can i just flash a custom recovery and flash the su file zip thats on my sdcard will that give me root again?? please help!!

Just load recovery and flash su will work

I flashed twrp 2.0 and flashed a rom over stock and im back to where i was before!! lol i thought i would have to flash the su but i didnt?? before it was rooted it was hboot 1.40.000 then rooted the hboot went to 1.40.100 now its back to 1.40.000.. everything fine seems like its running smoothier?
