UPDATES for A500... INFO THREAD

Just wanted to bring this to your attention...

There are three ways to register your product through ACER at this time. Three separate databases. Three separate departments...

What am I trying to say? Here it is...

I spoke with a representative from ACER today at this number:

1-800-571-2237

I advised that I had yet to receive my update and would like to know where it is... I was transferred to a level 2 hardware/software person who advised me that ACER has THREE databases right now and that if you want your update it is best that you contact them directly to register your device and get the update pushed out soon.

He was not able to push the update to my device but did state that neither the Tablet ACER REGISTRATION nor the Online REGISTRATION i did for the tablet showed up in his database...

I am sharing this with you because, well, if you are still waiting for your update, make sure you call them and get yourself registered. ACER is working on getting these databases consolidated into one but until then... Dont risk not being in the correct database... jejeje

PS. Once I got off the phone I was given an oportunity to take a survey for the A500 directly... needless to say, great oportunity to express your sentiments over the locked bootloader... jejeje

So did you get your update or not? what is that update? do you get 3.1 update? do you get 3.2 update?

I got the 1.141.07 update eventually but I went Custom Recovery and Rom right after that... I am using the Virtuous XooM 3.2 ROM but as far as I know, the 3.2 is an update to help the tablets with smaller screens (7 inches or so)...

There are ROMs already out there that are STOCK 3.1 for the ACER A500 that only have ROOT already installed.

I did not stay stock long enough to get the 3.1 update and as stated, the 3.2 is supposed to be for smaller tablets, I do not find anything really different in the versions except for I now have a button at the task bar when I launch certain applications that allow me to "STRETCH" or "ZOOM IN" to the application... but no other changes that I can see...
