ROOTing the ACER A500 (Root 3.0.1 or 3.1). Easy as 1-2-3
 

Alright my people, since there is no official thread for the ACER A500 I have to post this here. I know there are some people out there that want this done (I know I did...:toothy10:)... I want to make sure everyone understands, I am simply sharing this information here, I am not the creator of this and I DO NOT TAKE CREDIT for developing this... With that said, on to the rest... Anyways, I found this over at XDA and thought id share it here... jejeje

***ROOT YOUR ICONIA TAB IN A 1-2-3***

A few notes before you start... (Tips to prepare your tablet for ROOT)

* Both USB Debugging and Unknown Sources must be ON (Check marked)
* Must have your A500 in PORTRAIT MODE. The app will FORCE CLOSE if you have the tablet in LANDSCAPE!!! (If you need, I recommend just keeping the SCREEN ROTATION LOCK in the OFF position)
* And finally, MAKE SURE you have a MICROSD card inserted.

Now for the FUN STUFF (The EASY AS 1-2-3 Part... jejeje)

1.) Install the APK attached. DOWNLOADING DIRECTLY FROM YOUR TAB IS OK!!!

2.) Go to your Apps and launch GINGERBREAK. REMEMBER TO BE IN PORTRAIT MODE OR YOU WILL FC!

3.) Select the option "ROOT DEVICE" and wait for ROOT to be installed on your device. YOUR DEVICE WILL REBOOT UPON SUCCESSFUL ROOT.

There you go, easy as 1-2-3, Download, Install, Root... You cant get much easier than that... :toothy7:

Thanks for the info... I'm new to Android and the A500 which I just ordered...would it be recommended to ROOT the device shortly after receiving it or to wait till the 3.1/3.2 update is pushed?

If you root you can go ahead and install any of the roms out there for the A500 that already have 3.1 on them. Find them on XDA-Developers as most of the development is there.

In my preference, root then upgrade through CWM
