Install an app called Advanced config. One of the settings it includes is to leave wifi on when the screensaver comes on. Here's a link:

I have a GSM Treo Pro, but most things should be the same. Go to settings, then Keyguard. There should be a checkbox to disable the touchscreen, which on the GSM TP is checked by default. Uncheck that box & you're all set. Just remember that, if you're not using some type of headset, your cheek touching the screen
can act as if you intentionally touched the screen, with random results. I've done it.
