yep, what you're looking for is clean home page... There is a thread where we're discussing putting the clock in the corner and clearing things out..

Post 20 of that thread has a cab for cleanhome page that does not require background for all nor does it 'move' your clock to the corner. Also there is alot of info on what files to modify for the home page to to just as you'd like. Post there and any number of us will be able to help where you get stuck
