First of all, I was disappointed when I received it to realize that the manufacture date reported using ##RTN# was 4/10/2006, suggesting that I won't be able to restore the ring through Ev-DO behavior. However, that same screen shows the "original activation date" as 2/1/2006. How can it have been originally activated before it was manufactured? I wonder if there is any use trying the hack to see if it works despite the reported date of manufacture making it apparently ineligible.

When you first turn on your phone and set it up, the phone by default is set to date as 2/1/2006, hence that's why it shows up as the activation date. It happened to me as well -- the Sprint Store agent set the phone up and gave it to me, and it showed 2/1/2006 as the date.
