HTC Hands Free Stereo Headset Mod

New use for that old OEM HTC stereo head set.

With a little bit of soldering and some finagling, you can turn those poor sounding uncomfortable speakers into a great sounding headset with a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo mini adapter.

With a small flat screwdriver pop off the back of the microphone/push button. You'll see a small logic board. Unsolder the 4 wires going to the stock head speakers.

Now find a female 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo mini. I cut one off of an old unused headphone extension cable. Strip off the main insulation and then the end of each of the 3 wires.

Now find a little strip of metal or the like to crimp on the wire so the stress from a wire pull is transferred to the plastic case rather than the solder joints.
