And it is actually only for that particular incoming call. In other words, if you get a call and want to stop the ringer/vibrate notification, put the phone face down (even for just a second). The next incoming call will ring/vibrate as normal, unless you put the phone face down again.

It is a very handy feature when you are in meetings, school, etc.
