Your SMS aren't stored on your personal comupter, but rather online so you can access them anywhere with internet access.

Plus it it can really save your butt if something happens your phone dies. About a month ago my Motorola Q completely died. I had no way to recover any contact information from the phone, I was away from home and the office and wasn't set up with an Exchange server so no activesync. The first thing I did when I got my TP was to add Dashwire. After the intial sync, everything this was right in my world!
