Sorry, never had that happen before and I've been using the Threaded SMS program since it was first "released". If I were you, I would do a sprite backup and then hard reset. Once back up, just install the threaded SMS app and see if you still get your freezes.
If you don't, you can rule out the threaded app. Maybe something else you have is hanging your device.
