You might want to look into Direct Push technology. PushEffect, sort of Direct push, runs on your PPC. You setup Gmail to forward to your cellphone, which is sent as a text. PushEffect intercepts this message and uses it as a trigger to download mail. Therefore, it ONLY downloads whenever you get NEW mail. There is no need to poll the server every 30 minutes, hour(s), etc. This will then save you on battery life.

FYI, it requires that you have a SMS package.
