You could try clearing any leftover messages you don't need and then dial ##3282# which will reset settings in epst without performing a hard reset. Then if that doesn't work dial ##786# and reset which will reset and hard reset everything.
You'll need your MSL for both. Use something like Baffs MSL grabber or ask your carrier for it.
