Welcome to PPCGeeks. If this is your first Android phone then reading the book might be of some use, although it doesn't go into great detail on how the operating system works. Those, and others that are out there should help, but nothing can substitute for just sitting down and playing with your phone. Most of your common questions have probably already been answered either here or on xda-developers:

Once you get comfortable with the stock OS check out the Wiki we have here and you can start getting into what really makes Android phones great - the ability to customize it to your liking.

Jump down to section 3. General and go from there (a lot of what's in the first 2 sections is outdated and needs a facelift). Before you root your phone, I highly recommend you read everything in there, and then read it again.
