The rom shouldn't hinder google maps.
I suggest you use or update QuickGPS first.
Then start google maps and in the gps settings make sure it is set to gps intermediate driver.
Maybe something installed wrong so you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the app after updating QuickGps. It should work for you.
